Welcome to Union Park District Council!

District 13 - comprised of Merriam Park, Snelling Hamline and Lexington-Hamline neighborhoods, is one of 17 neighborhood districts in St. Paul. In 2007, the Merriam Park, Snelling Hamline, and Lexington-Hamline Community Councils merged into one organization to represent all residents of District 13, hence the new name, Union Park District Council (UPDC).

UPDC is your portal to city, county, and state officials. Our mission is to provide opportunities for you to participate in planning and decision-making that affects your neighborhood. We invite you to explore UPDC's website and learn more about us!

SAFETY REMINDERS FROM THE SAINT PAUL POLICE
As we enter the Fall season the Saint Paul Police Department sends a few public safety reminders:

Make a model and serial number log of valuables.  Note the model and serial numbers for all computers, electronics, bicycles, and other items of value and save the list in a safe location.  In the event of a theft, having this information allows investigators to register the number as a stolen item in a national tracking system, and allows for easier identification in the event that the item is recovered or found. The creation of a valuables log is important both in the home, as well as, for businesses.

Safely secure valuablesTheft from auto has been a growing problem all across the metro area.  With the explosive use of GPS units, thefts from auto have become even more prevalent.  As much as we should be able to expect that belongs are secure in locked vehicles, thieves have been very successful at quickly breaking into cars and stealing GPS units and other items of value. Leaving purses, gym bags, briefcases, backpacks, and computer bags in your car greatly increases risk of becoming victimized in a theft from auto.

Be safe when surfing the web.  As we turn to the internet for more of our shopping, reading, and learning it is important that minimize our risk of becoming victims of identity theft or other forms of internet exploitation.  Great internet safety information resources are available at www.netsmartz.org or www.getnetwise.org.

Neighborhood policing.  Ensuring community safety requires strong alliances between members of the community and their police department.  Effective community policing strategy demands that we work together to:
1.Increase the likelihood of offender detection and capture.
2.Reduce the potential of becoming victimized, by taking reasonable prevention steps.
3.Focus our collective attention and efforts on the locations where crime and disorder are occurring.
