First Fencing Club Practice We will be holding our first fencing practice Friday September 5 at 5:10PM in the Spinning suite. If you are new to fencing check out the "What should I bring to fencing" page. If you have any questions post them on our forums. Fencing Club Meeting Hey Folks, Homero here. We will be having our beginning of semester meeting on Friday August 29 at the east Campus SRF building (the rec center) at 5:30PM. We wll meet in front of the juice bar. Sorry it's so late but I work till five. We will be discussing the fencing schedule, pricing and the addition of a 4th officer. Also a great way to introduce yourself if you're new and to ask the officers questions. Hope to see you all there! And check out the boards! Homero I. Castellanos August 21,2008 Fall semester is almost here! Howdy folks, we have a lot of things planned for the new semester. New room. new hours, new management, new message boards, new officers! Hopefully new members. Although we've lost Geoffrey we gained back Silvester. And don't hesitate to join the message boards, it is the best place to ask questions and discuss fencing. UIC fencing club forums August 16,2008 Homero I. Castellanos Other notes for summer Unfortunately the SRF charges for use of their facilities if you're not enrolled during the summer. I fence at the Chicago fencing club in Irving Park Monday and Wednesday nights. Also please join the Facebook group, it's a great way to keep in contact. I highly recommend that you visit other fencing clubs during the summer -- you will learn much more about fencing. Homero It's summer break time! Because we fence in SRF and most students do not have access to it unless they are enrolled in summer school, the Fencing Club activities will resume when Fall Semester classes begin. However, if anyone is interested to fence during the summer here are some possibilities:
-------------------------------------------------------------------- We are pleased to announce the new officers who were elected for the 2008-2009 academic year: President: Geoffrey Pyrzynski Vice President: Homero Castellanos Treasurer: Noelle Kwan Congratulations to them! Thank you, club members, for taking part in the nomination and voting process, and in our end-of-season pizza party. Many thanks to our previous club officers, each of whom had contributed much time and effort to the club during the past two semesters: Past President: Geoffrey Pyrzynski Past Vice President: Sylvester Vijay Rozario Past Treasurers: Mark Lill, then Homero Castellanos Through their efforts we have:
================================================ You may your own equipment at the following affordable web sites: http://www.blue-gauntlet.com (Starter SET Deal) http://www.physicalchess.com (Practice Sets) http://www.tcafencing.com/catalog (Starter Sets) http://www.blade-fencing.com/store/index.htm (Beginner Sets) If you haven't already, join the fencing Facebook group. http://uic.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2261256921. We can never get to much publicity. The Recreational Center at UIC is looking for qualified instructors so that they may offer a multi-week introductory fencing class. Homero and I will be asking the instructors at the clubs where we fence to see if they are interested. Because this is the first time such a class would be offered, UIC would purchase ten or so fencing equipment starter sets. Our fencing club would then be able to use this equipment for its practices! So, when this workshop is announced (probably to take place on five consecutive Saturday mornings), we urge our club members to sign up for it at a cost of approximately $50. Not only will this bring quality fencing instruction to UIC, but our equipment needs will be met. Stay tuned for details.. Attached below is a copy of the flier that we passed out at the Sports and Fitness Day at SRF on 2/22. Sylvester did a great job to get this flier done on time. Thanks to Geoffrey for making the club sign, to Homero for organizing the demonstration matches, and to all who came and made this event a success! (March 3, 2008, posted by Wally Goncharoff) |
