The tentative date for this year's Model Water Tower Competition is December 5th. What is it? We team up with professional engineers and local middle school teachers to provide students with the opportunity to learn about the water industry. We will be mentoring students once or twice a week for about a month prior to the competition. Students design model water towers according to specifications as economically sound as possible. We need volunteers to help with mentoring and running the competition. Why volunteer? It is ridiculously fun! You get the chance to share a bit of what you've learned with middle school students that are not always given the opportunities they deserve. We want to shatter stereotypes about engineering and show them that they are every bit as capable and we are! Help build confidence, foster creative thinking, and get some young minds interested in the water industry! I will continue to provide information, but if you are interested in volunteering, please e-mail me at awwa.uf@gmail.com or ishii@ufl.edu. |
