How the Tutor Amigos en Matemática program works The Tutor Amigos en Matematica program aims to provide two levels of support. 1. Live Volunteers (Physical and Online) 2. Live, Spanish-speaking math tutors (Online) Volunteers The "Tutor Amigos en Matematica" program is aimed to promote live, online and offline academic support at your organization. Volunteers are an ideal resource because they are typically passionate about the mission of your organization and are willing to give their time for free. The best volunteers are worth their weight in gold. We want to help you find and train these people. We will provide
Tutoring performed live and in person is wonderful, when possible. However given geographic constraints and limited time availability of many volunteers, online tutoring is an attractive alternative to enable those who otherwise could not volunteer be involved, or expand the availability and reach of existing volunteers. Volunteer candidates will contact your organization directly. Each candidate is yours to explain your organization's mission and if approved by you, go through your organization's process for new volunteers. In the meanwhile, we will provide a free online training course to your staff so that your organization can train volunteers in how to provide tutoring online. Online, Spanish-speaking math tutors In an ideal world, there would always be enough skilled volunteers available for
every organization and every student in need. Our first priority is to help you find those volunteers. However, if your organization has an immediate need for Spanish-speaking
Math tutors, Tutor Amigos can help fill your short and medium-term tutoring gaps with online tutors based in Latin America.
Tutor Amigos online tutors are qualified, and trained by Tutor Amigos to provide online academic support in Math. This is a paid tutoring service. Revenue is used to recruit qualified tutors by offering a competitive local wage and to cover costs of the volunteer training course, free trials of this service to new organizations and overhead. Despite these costs, rates are still 25-30% the rates of personal tutors in the US. | The Tutor Amigos idea is simple: to connect
over the internet volunteer or contracted Spanish-speaking math tutors with English Language Learning (ELL) Latino students in need of academic support. Why? ELL Latinos who need academic support the most, are least likely to be able to obtain it due to low incomes, or a lack of access to computers with a broadband connection. Can this be
overcome? Yes. By partnering with nonprofits, schools and
