BSA Troop 222 General Information Page WHO WE ARE:Troop 222 was chartered in May 1988 and has been continuously active since its inception. The Knights of Columbus of Saint Elizabeth Seton's Church charters Troop 222; however, the scouting program is non-denominational. There are currently 80 boys in the Troop, half of which are in high school and half in junior high. Our troop has helped 83 boys achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Most boys, independent of the level that they achieve, learn skills, values, and self-confidence. These qualities will assist the scout in every walk of life. WHERE WE MEET: We meet most Monday nights from 6:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Meadow Glens School. The school is located at the east end of Sara Dr. one mile east of Naper Blvd. The school facilities include large, clean, and modern meeting rooms, plus many additional indoors and outdoors facilities. OUR GOAL:The aim of scouting is to build character, foster citizenship and to develop fitness. The values that we encourage are based on those found in the Scout Oath and Law. We are a very goals-oriented troop and one statistic says it all: over 12% of the young men that have joined Troop 222 have reached the elite rank of Eagle Scout. This average is almost 4 times the national average of 3%. The scouts run Troop 222’s program with guidance from the adult leaders. We believe scouting works best in an outdoor environment and Troop 222 supports a strong outdoor camping program. ORGANIZATION: Troop 222 encourages active adult participation. The troop has 12 active Assistant Scoutmasters, plus 10 Eagle Scouts who are also registered Assistant Scoutmasters. A monthly Patrol Leader Council (PLC) is held to charter the organization toward short-term and long-term goals. The PLC is made up of a Senior Patrol Leader, two Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders, Patrol Leaders and adult Patrol Advisors. Each Patrol Leader represents their patrol at PLC. The Patrol Leader then distributes information to their patrol. The Troop is broken down into two basic programs:
Troop Equipment:The Troop supplies all equipment necessary for camping with the exception of sleeping bags, mess kits, and personal effects. The Troop is well outfitted with tents, stoves, tables, lanterns, tarps, and a custom trailer to house and carry this equipment. Scouts always plan their own menu, and perform their own cooking and cleaning. There’s a $95.00 equipment and membership fee to join Troop 222 paid at the time the scout registers to join. |
