The can be some confusion when dealing with the various Current and Voltage transducers particularly with respect to AC & DC. There are a number of different types: - The output of the transducer directly reflects the input voltage or current including any DC component. These we will designate as AC/DC MON (i.e. AC/DC monitor)
- The output of the transducer directly reflects ONLY the AC component of the input signal. The DC part is not processed by the transducer. Most current clamps operate like this. These are designated AC MON.
- The output of the transducer is a DC representation of what the AC input signal is. i.e. 500VAC input the output is 1VDC. These are typically used with slow loggers. They often use different techniques to determine what the DC equivalent would be, some are an 'RMS' representation others are 'Peak to Peak' or 'Peak'. Care must be taken to understand how these clamps are operating, for example the technique used to determine the RMS value might not be an appropriate method with the particular wave form present. These clamps are designated AC LOG.
- The output of the transducer is a DC representation of what the AC & DC input signal. The transducer provides an output which includes any DC components in the RMS calculation. These clamps are designated AC/DC LOG.
