The Original TOM Software Group
This is the site for the original TOM Software Group. TOM Software was started in Seattle in the early 1970's and grew to produce several software products, including the D.A.T.A. word processing products, RMS, the companion record management system to the D.A.T.A. line. TOM, know then as The Office Manager, produced one of the first data sheet controlled accounting products know as TOM1. This concept was rewritten as the well known and popular accounting product known as SPEED I (One). These were all Wang products during the 70's and early 80's. TOM rewrote it's Basic product for the Wang VS product line and that became known as SPEED II (Two). In the mid 80's TOM spun off the SPEED I Basic line to Northwest Source Group (NSG). NSG rewrote and modernized the product line for the PC market place. That product is called SPEED FourD, or popularly known simply as FourD. SPEED III lived only shortly as a Unix based version. In 1991, NSG repurchased the TOM Software company and mergered NSG into TOM Software. After fiftenn years, TOM's principal owner, Chas Knox retired and sold the TOM Name and products to Genesistems, Inc. of Rocherter NY; a long time TOM reseller. At that point, the old TOM Software became TOM Classic. TOM Classic now consists of Chas and Sue Knox and Jim Odland. We can be reached at chas, sue or jim @tomclassic.com.
