How you become an online peer advisor

Training (1-2 months)

  • Group training sessions (Saturdays). Training is organised into three sessions, each session covers different aspects of peer advising online
  • Answering enough practice questions to get you feeling ready (minimum three). When you answer a question you send it in to us for feedback from training coordinator.
  • 1-2-1 support and feedback (phone or in person)

Assessment

Assessment is carried out on completing training and practice questions. If ready, start step 2.

Answering with mentor (3-4 months)

  • Choose a weekly shift
  • Pair up with mentor (freelance relationships advisor on askTheSite)
  • Answer questions on live website via askTheSite online system
  • Answer questions and email them to mentor
  • Mentor edits your answer to complete the final answer received by users
  • Mentor sends feedback to you

Final Assessment

Final assessment is carried out when you’ve found your routine and voice as a peer advisor. If ready, step 3.

Answering without mentor (as long as you want!)

  • Answer questions once a week (or as regularly as you can)
  • Answer directly within online system of askTheSite
  • Answers are proofed and approved by askTheSite team at YouthNet UK
  • Feedback provided to you as and when needed, rather than as a matter of course
