HOW TO INSTALL BOINC ON A UBUNTU 64-BIT OPERATING SYSTEM
[WE LEARNED IT ALL THE HARD WAY.....]
Some of these steps may be unnecesary - but this does work very, very nicely:
IN 64-BIT UBUNTU 7.10
GO TO:
"system/admin/software sources" and then check the top 2 boxes, the ones on 'allowing all open source and universal'.....
Apparently, if you don't do this Boinc will not show up in synaptic when you:
NOW GO TO:
"Applications" and "add/remove," click the arrow on "supported apps" and check "ALL."
Boinc Manager now shows up as an installable application. Install it.
YOU ARE NOT DONE, YOU ALSO NEED THE 'Boinc client.'
NOW GO TO:
Sys/admin/synaptic and click the diamond for "all applications."
Now on the list at left, click "networking" and scroll down the list of apps on the right to find "Boinc client."
Check that and "Apply" and "Apply" again.
NOW, you can attach to the science project or projects of your choice by following simple instructions in Boinc Manager - which now shows up in your installed applications listings.
