Larry Gregorwich - Trainer

Born in rural Alberta, near Camrose. So rural, that if you saw a train passing by, it would not make your day; it would make your month. Worked in a nickel mine in Thompson, Manitoba for a year and a half and then went hitchhiking in Europe for a holiday. Made a wrong turn in Brussels and ended up in Finland. The rest is history. As the saying goes: I can handle any crisis. I have children (5). Have been working in a Finnish mental hospital for the last 29 years as a mental nurse. Do not panic. I will not be Sigmund Freuding any of you during the games. I was asked to organize a floorball team for junior girls sometime beyond my memory banks. I started teaching Ann-Mari Gregorwich (first national team player) and then commenced with Erica and Pirita who will be on this team. I have enough experience in floorball to know who is a good coach and who thinks he/she is a good coach. Kati is one of the best. I still wonder in what way Canada is blackmailing one of Finland's top professional coaches to teach us. I will be your trainer and my only duty is to keep the waterbottles filled. I will be working under Jonathan so if an injury happens to one of you, I will give you sympathy and Jonathan will give you treatment. Unfortunately, I am not a nerd. I have no friends as I do not know how to get a facebook started. The first time I used a digital camera, I took 5 pictures of myself before my son told me to turn the camera the other way around. My father figure respect has been on a downhill slide ever since. Because of this, you may notice how Pirita and Erica will try to pretend I am not related to them. My only hobby is to open the door at 3 am for the cat to go outside. My only fun is when I can shut the door behind her. If I seem quirky, I have a good excuse. The only normal life I have is driving between home and work and work and home.
ps. Can anyone bring me a Canada cap? Please, please, please??? After being in exile in Finland for the last 35 years, I would even treasure an Air Canada airsick bag. |
Kati Suomela - Head Coach
I`m from Oulu, Finland. Oulu is about 600 km from Helsinki to up north. I have been living in Helsinki about 15 years. I`m P.E teacher in a Mäkelänrinne Sport High School. I have played over 10 years floorball as a goalie. I have been coaching a couple of clubs in Finland, one year in Switzerland, U-19 team of Finland. This year I don`t have a teama to coach because I wanted to have a year off. I do a lot of sports for fun at the moment; I go jogging, play tennis, badminton and squash, little bit of floorball also. I like to spend time with my friends, eat well and relax. I like to watch hockey also. As a kid, I always wanted to be a hockey goalie!
Patrik Lonell - Assistant Coach
I am from Kalmar, south east Sweden. 38 years old. Married to Linda since 2003 and I have a son Melvin 3 years old. I have my own company within marketing management.
Except for floorball I am a fitness aerobics instructor and I play veteran ice hockey. I am the founder of Floorball Shooting School and I travel the world teaching shooting techniques.
Jonathan Koo - Physician/Trainer
I was originally born in Calgary, AB and now live in Vancouver, BC. I am of Chinese Canadian descent, with my parents originally from Hong Kong. I went to USC in Los Angeles, CA for my undergraduate degree. I have been involved with Floorball over the past year in Vancouver, BC, playing weekly with the Capilano Floorball Club. I have absolutely LOVED the game, and am very excited to be going to Sweden, representing Canada. I am a bit of a computer and electronics nerd. I love to play Floorball and Ice Hockey, when I have free time. I am a huge USC Trojans Football fan, HUGE! I love Country music and drive a pick-up truck. I'm a bit of a Chinese Cowboy, or so people make fun of me. ;) |

I'm from Nokia, Finland. My dad is canadian and my mother is finnish. Now I live in Tampere with my sisters, one big happy family in a small appartment. I study practical nursing in college and I'll graduating spring 2010 from the care of elderly study program. I like old people cause they're all so goofy and even funny when they're really angry. Playing as a kid but started playing "for real" about 4-5 years ago. I love to watch TV, I'm not ashamed of it. I'm such a couch potatoe. I like to bake too, TV and baking is such a great combo. I flew over the cuckoo's nest loooong time ago.
Pirita Gregorwich - Defender, #24
Now I live in Tampere, Finland. My dad is canadian and my mother is finnish. I'm studying tourism in college and I will graduate in spring 2010. What I'm going to do after that, I have no idea. When I was a kid I played floorball just for fun in a team which my dad coached. For some odd reason I switched floorball to dancing for six years. When I was 15 years old I started playing again, but this time seriously in a proper team. It didin't take long when I lured my sister back in the game too. Now I have been playing about 5 years. I also practise Taekwondo. Floorball takes a lot of my free time, so I don't get to do taekwondo as much as I would love to. I'm a recovering shopaholic. :)

I was born in Keewatin, Ontario where I grew up and finished high school. I moved to Guelph, Ontario in September 2006 to begin studying Biological Engineering at the University of Guelph. I am now currently in my fourth year of the five year program. I have been living in Sweden since January completing Co-op work terms for my engineering degree. I'm working for the Department of Food Technology, Engineering and Nutrition at Lund University right now, and earlier in the year I also worked for Tetra Pak here in Lund, Sweden. I'm moving back to Canada just before Christmas and I will return to Guelph in January to continue with my studies. While I have been living in Sweden, I have been playing on a women's floorball team. We are a part of the division 3 league here in the southern part of Sweden. This season, our team is doing amazing, as we are currently in first place! I played in the Floorball Canada Cup two years in a row before I moved to Sweden, and besides that I just try and play as much floorball over here in Sweden as I can. I have also played hockey since I was five years old, up until I moved to Sweden last winter. I keep pretty busy and so I don't have a lot of free time, but when I do have some I like to travel, go out with friends, or just relax at home and watch movies. I'm also a big fan of fitness classes at the gym. Something that a lot of people don't know about me is that I played the piano for about 10 years when I was younger. Unfortunately, I only find time to play piano now when I go home for Christmas, but I still love it!
Alison (Alie) Quinn - Forward/Defender, #5 I am from Osgoode, Ontario. I am a teacher, teaching at the International School of Helsinki since last year. Before that I taught for 2 years in North Toronto. I was introduced to Floorball about 4 years ago in Teacher's college and started playing because I couldn't find a hockey team to play for. I played for several teams and had the wonderful opportunity to play for team Canada in 2007. I am currently playing my second season in Finland, http://www.ssv.fi/joukkueet/naiset_edustus/joukkue. I like to read, cook, and bake when I'm not playing sports. Living abroad I miss my family and friends of course, but I also miss the little things I took for granted, like Tim Horton's, NHL Hockey, Reese Peanut Butter Cups, Crown Royal, and canned soup.
Marilyn Rayner - Defender, #2
Hej! I’m from Toronto but moved to Sweden for doctoral studies in 1999 and have been here ever since. I work as a researcher and lecturer at the Chemical Engineering Centre at Lund University, Lund Sweden. I started playing pickup floorball with some guys at work and house league about 9 years ago, but since 2005 I have played with a ladies team here in Lund called IBK Finn. I had had a little floorball sabbatical 2008 due to having our son Alfred, who by the way will be cheering us on from the sidelines with his grandparents. Well between work and Alfred the only hobby I have time for right now is floorball. Of course, like most of the rest of you I have played lots of other sports like hockey, curling, golf. In highschool had a 1st place finish in javelin-but I had really signed up for track and field just to get out of French class. I can also make balloon animals.
Tiffany Talbot - Defender, #93
I live in Creemore, ON. It's a village north of Toronto. I grew up there and spent my whole life there up until I left for university. I go to school at the University of Ottawa, which is where I live now, and I'm in the Leisure Studies program. I spend my summers back at home in Creemore working at the Creemore Springs Brewery. I started playing floorball in September of 2008 in intramurals at my university. I played for the semester and then started playing for fun the next semester every week with Ottawa Blizzard. I went to the Toronto Cup with them, where I was asked to play for the 2009 Ontario Women's Floorball team. I played in Vancouver with the Ontario team for Nationals, which we won Gold in. I kept playing with the guys in Ottawa and eventually got some girls together to make a women's Ottawa Blizzard team and played in the Canada Cup tournament. Right now, I am still playing every week with the guys here in Ottawa.
I also play a few sports! I've played competitive hockey since I was 9 years old (and still do!). I played soccer, basketball, and hockey for my high school. I was the captain of both my basketball and hockey teams. I also started playing ball hockey in the summer. I love watching NHL hockey on Saturday nights. GO LEAFS GO!! When I go home I ski, snowmobile, hike, rollerblade, and drive my dad's truck! I like watching movies, shopping, baking, having a good laugh, and I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!! The decorations, the food, the traditions, the songs and music, the spirit, the snow..definitely my favourite time of year! I can't wait to go to Sweden and share my love of Floorball and the Christmas season with all of you! |
