Sustainable Kirkland is an organization of Kirkland area residents who have come together to experience a greater sense of community and share ideas about ways to practice a more sustainable lifestyle.
Our mission is to create a more environmentally friendly community through choices we make in our own lives, by serving as role models for our families, friends and neighbors, and by providing a clearinghouse for information on ways to live a simpler lifestyle that makes wise use of limited resources.
Our initial projects will focus on gardening, recycling, energy efficiency and transportation options. At the beginning of 2009, we plan to sponsor a series of speakers on such topics as easy ways to use bicycles for commuting and errands and smart choices for home remodeling projects. We are also pursuing ways to “green” existing City of Kirkland festivals and events.
This group is just getting started. We welcome new ideas and invite others from the Kirkland community to join us. Our meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm at the home of one of our members. Come meet your Kirkland neighbors for a potluck dinner, discussion and conviviality. Feel free to check us out without feeling like you need to commit to anything! |
