The most important reason for people to keep living with Microsoft's crappy Windows may be different for different people, but technically, the ONLY THING other OS cannot do is the GAMES. Unlike Blizzard Entertainment, most game publishers don't want to bother with any OS X ports, not to mention Linux since it's "too free". Anyway, I found it's frustrating that I couldn't even play OSX games on OS X. Mame OS X is way out of date already, but at least it allows me to play the old Street Fighter series. However PSX emulation is much worse. The only PSX emulators I can find on OS X are PCSX and FlareStorm (FlareStorm2), but they both are toooooooold. The problem is that I can't even get they run on my Macbook Pro. Switching to Windows always takes too much time, and MBP always becomes incredible hot in Windows XP. So my choices are left for only 2 options: WINE and Virtual Box (they are all open & free). I then happily found that WINE can do the trick. I used to dislike WINE because it's buggy. And yes, it is buggy, but once it comes with emulators vs virtual machines, it becomes not that bad at all. I still won't choose WINE for most plug-in based applications such as IE, but for emulator, as it is accurate, I guess it is the best solution for me. |
