Music-2nd Quarter

Hello! I am the music teacher, Dr. Victoria Adamenko. This is my first year at St. Paul's Catholic School. I am excited to work with the wonderful children and develop a new quality level of music program.

Pre-K and Kindergarten students now just started to practice for our Christmas program. The Pre-K ones will ring "The First Noel" with colorful bells. As we practice doing that during music classes, they learn to pay attention and to react quickly to a command. First and Second Grade work towards the ability to perform a variety of songs using both vocal and rhythmic activities. They are also practicing for Christmas program, which will take place on December 18th.
The students from the Third to Eights Grades have sung beautifully during Friday School Mass. A lot of them also attend the Choir on Wednesdays. We study the meaning of the texts in the church hymns as well. The students have learned "Ave Maria" in Latin, with the music of the 16th-century classical composer, Arkadelt. They will perform this polyphonic anthem in 2 parts during a mass in November. The children will continue to work on the quality of their singing in the weeks to come. They also will study music theory and history.
Children's choir welcomes 3rd through 8th-graders. We meet on Wednesday mornings for our 1-hour weekly rehearsal in the music room, from 8 to 9 am. The choir performs at 9am Sunday mass and Friday school mass. Our practices on Sundays start at 8 am in the music room. There is no obligation to attend all Sundays, come when you can! Please keep in mind that our repertoire choices are different this year. We include the songs that children know and love. We also understand if someone is late for a reheasal Sunday morning. There is no pressure, come when you can.
