Honors ACS

HACS

Honors American Cultural Studies combines tenth grade English and U.S. History. The general purpose of this course is to examine cultural and historical trends of our country and how those trends are reflected in literature. It is designed for students who are willing to devote extra time and energy to the intensive study of literature and history, as well as the writing of numerous essays based on those topics. The course is organized around four main interdisciplinary thematic units: Fulfillment, Taking a Stand, Renewal, and Justice/Injustice. In conjunction with the course content, students will continue to develop their reading, writing, and research skills, with proficiency on CAPT as a key goal.

Prerequisites: Demonstrated high achievement in reading and writing in Global Cultural Studies Honors, excellent portfolio, and teacher recommendation.
