Dear St. Mary's Family,
I will be student teaching at Olympia High School for the first eight weeks of the 2009-2010 school year. In my stead, Mrs. Hillmer will be acting as our School Librarian. Mrs. Hillmer and I will be keeping in touch and I will be back in the Library before Halloween. Each class visits the library once per week for book checkout and literature enhancement. In the lower grades usually a story is involved. In the upper grades all forms of information literacy are possible topics. In 7th and 8th grade I will take some time to cover the college admissions process. This topic is critical, as many students are unaware that their high school grades are important from day one of high school when it is time to apply for colleges. This year grades 4-8 will be encouraged to read at least three of the twenty books nominated for the the 2010 Rebecca Caudill Award.
Students are able to check out two books per week. I request that they return their books the following week. If they wish to renew a book, and it does not have a hold placed on it for another student, they may re-check the book for another week. If your student wants to return their book on a day that the library is closed please have them take the book to Mrs. Swanke's mailbox in the office. If students forget to return their books they are allowed to check out paperback books, but the total books out at any time to any one student is limited to five. Lists of outstanding books are sent home once a month in order to allow students and parents to be fully aware of outstanding library books. Late fines are never levied.
The library schedule is:
Monday - Grades 5, 6, 7 & 8
Tuesday - Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, & 4
Wednesday - Open for research, class visits, etc.
Please remind your student to put their library books in their backpack the night before their scheduled class visit.
See you in the library!
Mrs. Swanke
