We have a brand new text this year that really focuses on writing and grammar. Below is a general outline of the topics we will be covering throughout the year. Students should plan on having homework nearly every night, though it will vary greatly in length.
All work should be "wall worthy", meaning it should reflect the best quality and effort of the author. Some assignments will be graded on a "credit" basis while others will be graded on specific criteria. Points for individual assignments will typically range between 5 and 10 points with tests equalling 30-40 points.
Students will also complete a total of 5 portfolio "chapters" reflecting the progress of their work during a unit of study. Portfolios will be graded on specific criteria which will be given to the students 1 week prior to the due date. Portfolios will be worth 30 points. |
