Mrs. Klaege- Kindergarten Classroom Management Plan
Classroom Family Rules: 1. Be kind and helpful. 2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
3. Be polite.
4. Take turns and share. 5. Listen carefully when others are talking and follow directions. 6. Treat others as you would want to be treated. 7. Respect others.
Penny system (in effect now): Each student is given 2 pennies at the start of the day (for coming to school). They will get an addional penny if all chairs are down and ready to start the school day at their entire table. They will also be given another penny on the day that homework is returned.
Misbehavior: A penny is requested from them by me or Mrs. Williams if a class rule is broken. If the same activity happens again in the same day, 2 or more pennies will be requested from the student.
"Caught You Being Good" pennies are given to the whole class a couple times a week to reinforce good behavior. I do not want them to learn to behave so that they have a chance to win a prize.
I also give "Caught Ya" pennies to individuals for acts of kindness, honesty or good behavior that is done without expectation of a "Caught Ya" penny. This child will also be given an “Angels Among Us” ticket that will go into the school program and will be awarded from the principal.
Every few days, the children have the opportunity to cash 5 pennies in for a nickel and 5 nickels in for a quarter. When they have a quarter, they can go to the “Treasure Box” and choose something from it.
***another positive to using this system is that your child learns the money values and to change and give change J
Stop Light (in effect now): On an individual basis, I use a stop light system, as well. At the beginning of every day each student has their name on a clothespin that starts on green. I will give them a warning when a class rule is broken. After a warning, their clothespin moves to yellow. If they break that rule again then a warning is given before moving to red. Red means that the parent will be notified of their child’s behavior. Hitting or kicking another student or calling another student a name are reasons for automatically moving the child’s clothespin up to yellow or red.
Group Pebble System: I also implement a whole table management system to reinforce a sense of responsibility to the classroom community. The tables earn pebbles in a vase for quiet respectful behavior in lining up, walking the halls, cleaning up centers, working at their table spots, getting ready quickly, etc. When the vase is full, extra recess or an extra snack or a free choice period, are examples of rewards. *note: systems may be rotated throughout the year |
