Kindergarten The curriculum focuses on introducing the students to computers and technology. Students will learn basic computer/technology terminology along with age appropriate software. Kindergarteners learn how to open, exit, print, and use the basic tools in KidPix. Students are also introduced to the very basics of word processing software and the Internet. In addition, keyboarding is introduced to the students and the focus areas are: use both hands when typing, proper typing posture, and using the mouse proficiently. 1st Grade The focuses on expanding and building upon computer/technology terminology along with age appropriate software. 1st graders are introduced to the home row keys in keyboarding and will demonstrate proper typing posture. Students will build upon their KidPix knowledge by learning to save, print, and create slideshows (3-5 slides). Students will also learn how to save, name files appropriately, open existing documents, print, manipulate fonts, and insert graphics in a word processing software. Students will be introducted to Spreadsheets and how to add, format and chart data. The Internet will be used as a learning tool and students will learn basic Internet concepts. 2nd Grade
The curriculum focuses on expanding and building upon computer/technology terminology along with age-appropriate software. Second graders learn the alphabet keys and type 2-5 words per minute with 85% accuracy. Students will build upon their KidPix knowledge by creating more advanced slideshows. Students will also learn how to horizontally align text and change line spacing in word processing software. Students begin to learn how to search the Internet and complete basic Internet scavenger hunt. 3rd Grade The curriculum focuses on expanding and building upon computer/technology terminology along with using age-appropriate software. Third graders learn the punctuation keys and build upon their accuracy and speed. Students will be able to type 5-9 wpm with 90% accuracy. Word processing software will be used to create basic reports and students will learn how to use the spellchecker, insert graphics, delete text, and use the keyboard to navigate through a document. Students are introduced to the basic concepts of spreadsheets. The Internet will become more of a research tool and the students will build upon their Internet searching knowledge. 4th Grade The curriculum focuses on expanding and building upon computer/technology terminology and age-appropriate software. Fourth graders learn number keys and build upon their accuracy and speed. Students will be able to type 9-12 wpm with 90% accuracy. Students expand their word processing knowledge by learning the window parts, toolbars, moving text, using the find and replace feature, changing line spacing, changing horizontal alignment, formatting bullets/numbering, and creating outlines. Students will build and expand upon spreadsheet concepts by creating graphs. Students will begin to search the Internet without teacher assistance. 5th Grade The curriculum focuses on expanding and building upon computer/technology terminology and age-appropriate software. Fifth graders build upon their keyboarding accuracy and speed and will type 12-15 words per minute with 90% accuracy. Students are introduced to proofreader marks and how to proofread and edit documents. Students will build upon their word processing skills by learning vertical alignment, tabs, leaders, tables, inserting special characters, and creating basic newsletters. Fifth graders will build and expand upon spreadsheet concepts and learn how to write formulas. Presentation software is introduced to fifth graders. They will learn the basic concepts of presentation software and how to present information. Plus, fifth graders will learn the window parts and toolbars, adding slides, deleting slides, modifying slides, adding objects, adding hyperlinks, adding animation, and adding transitions. Web design is also introduced to fifth graders. They learn the basic web design concepts and how to create a web page using word processing software. 6th Grade The curriculum focuses on expanding and building upon computer/technology terminology and age-appropriate software. Sixth graders build upon their keyboarding accuracy and speed and will type 15-20 words per minute with 90% accuracy. Students will build upon their word processing skills by learning how to format pages, use indents, add page breaks, and add headers and footers. Students will build and expand upon spreadsheet concepts and learn how to write more advanced formulas. Students will build and expand on presentation design and presenting to an audience. Students will add music and develop more advanced presentations using presentation software. The students will build and expand upon web design concepts and learn how to use Netscape Composer to create a web page. 7th Grade The curriculum focuses on expanding and building upon computer/technology terminology and age-appropriate software. Seventh graders build upon their keyboarding accuracy and speed and will type 20-30 words per minute with 90% accuracy. Seventh graders will create more advanced word processing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations from previously learned concepts. Students will be introduced to HTML and how to use Netscape Composer and HTML to create a web page. Photo editing software will be introduced to the seventh graders and they will learn basic photo editing concepts and how to manipulate or edit a picture. Desktop Publishing will also be introduced to seventh graders. They will learn basic desktop publishing concepts and learn how to create newsletters, flyers, and brochures. Basic banking skills will be introduced. Seventh graders will learn about starting a checking account, writting checks, depositing money, withdrawling money, and balancing a checkbook.

Eighth graders build upon their keyboarding accuracy and speed and will type 30-40 words per minute with 90% accuracy. Students will create more advanced word processing document, spreadsheets, and presentations from previously learned concepts. Students will build upon HTML concepts and create a web page using only HTML. Desktop Publishing will be expanded to include more advanced concepts and students will create newsletters, flyers, and brochures. Basic computer programming will be introduced to the students. |
