My 6th grade science students begin the year with a unit on magnetism and electricity. Then we will study the physics of Newton's Laws of Motion. The assessment for this unit is to build a marble roller coaster. This is a very popular activity! Then we will study biomes, food chains and food webs, and focus on raptors as the top of their food web. We will dissect owl pellets and construct a skeleton from the bones. We will look at the ocean as a special biome and learn about currents, adaptations and dissect a squid.
There will be a science fair this year. It is scheduled for March 15, 2010. We will be writing a research paper second quarter and doing an at home project third quarter. More details to follow soon!
This is a copy of my safety contract. Students must pass a safety test and have a signed copy of this on file before they can participate in science activities.
