Under Construction The aim of this page is to acquaint community members with day laborers and create a venue where non-workers can come to understand the everyday struggles that these men and women go through. While facts and statistics frame the issue quite well, it is not until you hear the stories poured from their hearts, that one can say they understand day laborer issues. On June 2, I sent an e-mail to the Mountain View Day Worker Center, asking to interview some personal there. Though I have not yet received a response, I plan to follow through in the coming weeks. I also plan to interview workers directly. This summer I will be working with the Mountain View Day Worker Center for one week, during which I will be personally interacting with laborers. I hope to document the stories I hear from them on this website. I also hope to spend some time interviewing on the East Coast, as I will be spending most of my summer in New Jersey, a state home to countless day workers. Hopefully I will be able to compare and contrast the experiences of workers on the different coasts. |
