tremendous freedom on Fight The Power as the website makes it quite easy to follow artists and make friends. Fans can add photos of themselves and their favorite artists. They can also post their favorite genre(s), geographical location, favorite band, contact information, upcoming concerts that they are going to attend, recently purchased music, and their favorite videos. Fight The Power then uses all of the information that fans provide to find the most relevant artists to suit their tastes. Fans can also purchase their favorite artists' music on Fight The Power. Artists set the price for their music but they also have the option to let the fans pay what they want for the music. Based on this model, fans can easily support their favorite musicians and artists can potentially make a living off of their content. Not included in the template above is the "Suggested Artists" element of the website. In the account settings, fans can choose the parameters that Fight The Power should use in finding relevant artists. The default way that Fight The Power will generate new artists is to go through artists in a fan's favorite genres, compare the fan's favorite artists to similar artists and the tastes of similar fans, then display the artists that fit what the fan most likely will enjoy. Also, when fans look at artists' pages, they can rate the artist based on how much they like them. Fight The Power will then use this information to find the most relevant artists for a fan, and will also determine better music for similar fans as well. This "Suggested Artists" function will set Fight The Power apart from all of its competitors. Not only can fans search for artists based on overall popularity, but artists will also be able to find artists in niche genres. Simply put, fans can find music that they most likely would not find otherwise, even though their tastes may be obscure or different from the masses. Fight The Power has tremendous potential in connecting fans with the perfect artists for them. Also unavailable at this time is the Fight The Power wall that fans and artists can use to communicate back and forth. Both fans and artists have the opportunity to comment on each other's profiles in order to socialize and keep in touch. Fans can send artists electronic fan mail and artists can learn about what their fans want. Solid communication between fans and artists can only lead to a better online experience that mySpace and the generic record labels simply do not offer. Fight The Power will offer a unique online experience that any musician or music lover will enjoy. With more time and money, Fight The Power could potentially become a worthy competitor of mySpace, iTunes, and the big record labels because of the fan-artist interaction. last updated: 10 June 2008 © Craig Dabney |
