Possible Tech Integration ideas
1) Create a Web Site that all students will be able to contribute to (or 3 sites - one per team)
Use Docs to write procedures, Spreadsheet to record data and make graphs, Flip Video to record experiments, Google Presentation to summarize and report out

2) Activity 1 (Set this up on a Journal Type page)
Read, Watch, & Listen
Listen to instructor "mini lecture"
Watch Video: Insert Link there
Read about: Insert Link here

Have students add "comments" that respond to Prompt.
Provide guidance for structuring comments.

There are lots of scientific methods videos on Teacher Tube, School Tube, and You Tube
This is one of my favorites (if you like Monty Python)

Blogging: Some of you have asked about having students do some blogging
Here is a link to some of the blogging I used when I worked with grade 7-8 a few years ago.

Here is a full fledged lesson on critically analyzing websites with powerpoint and more (it even refers to the mythbusters video that Val used in kicking off this unit) I think it would tie in with the essential question well
http://docs.google.com/View?id=dfvwdtqp_1c8x6bmd8

And a WebQuest on the subject: http://www.kidsnetsoft.com/webquest/html/index.html

FAKE websites (many with science related themes) along with a worksheet and some lesson plans

Here's an interesting invention in the works that made me think of your theme
How Does Science Build Knowledge
with with a twist
such as "What type of knolwedge can Science help us build"

I know that one of the learning communities is doing inventions, this video certainly could get some discussion started.

I'm thinking that this unit "How Does Cience Build Knowledge" might be a great time to introduce students to TED Talks
There are 149 TED videos tagged Science
http://www.ted.com/talks/tags/id/5

I can think of lots of ways we can use the TED Talks videos and podcast ranging from having a small group pick one and discuss it in relation to our essential question
Or perhaps even ask them about the difference between a site like TED and one like YOUTUBE for getting scientific knowledge.
Just some ideas.. I also added them to our THEME Planning Page
