Many chronic illness sufferers get frustrated when they are constantly being told, "But you LOOK good!" or "But you don't LOOK sick!" It feels like people are telling them, "I don't believe you, because I can't SEE it." The Invisible Disabilities Advocate strives to explain that even though the symptoms from chronic illness, pain and injury may not always be obvious to us, these "invisible disabilities" are very real. IDA provides helpful links to sites and organizations of several diseases, disorders and conditions, as well as a support board.

If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian. ~ Paul McCartney

Slaughterhouses are places of horrifying violence and cruelty. They have a terrible impact on the environment, while using millions of tons of water and grain that would be better utilized directly nourishing people who need it. Worst of all, consuming animal products greatly increases your risk for heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, high blood pressure, and a host of other ailments.

Meatout asks you to consider kicking the meat habit (at least for a day) and exploring a wholesome, nonviolent diet of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Or you can participate in Meatout Mondays.

EarthSave educates, inspires and empowers people to shift toward a plant based diet centered on fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes - foods that are healthy for people and the environment. You can also take the VegPledge, where you promise to shift towards a plant based diet for the next 60 days. That can mean, depending on your current eating habits: adding more plant foods to your diet, going vegetarian, or going vegan!

A personal note: I "put my money where my mouth is," so to speak, and took the VegPledge myself (vegan) - and the health benefits have been amazing! 60 days came and went, and I'm still happily vegan since April 8, 2002. I've been able to quit almost all my asthma medication, have so much more energy, feel fantastic, and I'm never going back! (And I didn't have to go blowing my money on "miracle cure" scams everybody tries to sell!)

Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.  ~ Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine

Premarin is used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for menopause. This type of HRT medication has been linked to higher rates of heart attack, blood clots, breast cancer and dementia, amongst other things. There are many synthetic or plant-based alternatives. Despite this, and 5000 lawsuits against them, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals persists in promoting similar medications one after another. This is the same company that brought you Fen-Phen, the diet drug pulled from shelves by the FDA in September of 1997 for causing heart-valve leakage in some people.

As if this isn't enough, Premarin is made from PREgnant MARes' urINe. This is not a joke or urban legend. The horses are repeatedly impregnated, closely confined, deprived of water to concentrate their urine, and the urine collection cup allows urine to soak the skin of the vulva and cause painful infections and lesions.  The babies are almost always slaughtered, sometimes even "rendered" for meat while they are still alive!  Premarin is bad for people and bad for horses. Wake Up, Wal-Mart - With over $10 billion in profit, Wal-Mart can afford to do better than poverty level wages, no company health insurance for more than 600,000 employees, use of more part-time workers instead of full-time workers, pushing spouses of workers off Wal-Mart's health care plan through higher premiums, trying to dissuade "unhealthy" people from seeking jobs at Wal-Mart, discriminating against 2 million female workers and violating child labor standards. Join America's campaign to change Wal-Mart.
