Officer Duties and Bios

President - Jenny Demos, OMS II (jdemos@atsu.edu)


President is responsible for all aspects of the local SOMA chapter. He/she creates agendas for all meetings that are to take place on campus, and oversees all spending and all projects. The president must be able to plan and delegate responsibilities and work to keep all board members and chairs on and off campus connected. Class standing during term: OMS II, OMS III, OMS IV.


National Liaison Officer - Linda Shuler, OMS II (lshuler@atsu.edu)

NLO is responsible for corresponding with National SOMA and keeping the local chapter informed of any developments on the national level. This means that the NLO must call or email the Regional Trustee at least once a month. The NLO is also responsible for membership drives and the summer mailing to incoming students. Class standing during term: OMS II, OMS III, OMS IV.


Vice President - Mona Amin, OMS I (monamin@gmail.com)

VP is responsible for helping the President. He/she also oversees all of the committee heads. The VP should hold monthly meetings with the committee heads to organize what each committee plans to accomplish. He/She will also be in charge of running all meetings on campus with the agenda that the president created. Class standing during term: OMS I.





Treasurer - Rachelle Bond, OMS I (rbond@atsu.edu)

Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the bank account. He/She is also concerned with fundraising projects and collecting dues. He/She is to deposit all checks, write checks as needed, and keep all records of the bank account including but not limited to bank statements, copies of all reimbursements, copies of deposits and track the funds in the account. Class standing during term: OMS I.


Secretary - Crystal E. Scott, OMS I (cescott@atsu.edu)

Secretary is responsible for taking minutes at the meetings, distributing copies to all officers, making posters and flyers, emailing the SOMA member about events, reserving all rooms for the meetings, and updating the ATSU-SOMA website. He/She is also responsible for corresponding with speakers, advisors, donors, etc. Class standing during term: OMS I.

Subcommittee Chairs

Each chair is expected to either create or work with other organizations on at least 2 events (includes, but not limited to community service, speakers, events, and socials) in the academic year that are related to their subcommittee category. They will also inform the club about topics pertinent to their subcommittee category. Class standing during term: National Political Chair is an OMS II, OMS III or OMS IV. All other chairs are OMS I.

National Political Affairs - Jennifer Lizcano, MPH, OMS II (jlizcano@atsu.edu)

The NPA Chair is responsible for keeping members apprised of political developments on the state (excluding Arizona) and national level that pertain to our interests as medical students and future osteopathic physicians. The Chair is also responsible for publicizing DO Day on the Hill to all classes, and organizing a contingent to strongly represent ATSU-SOMA and its CHC states at the event.


Arizona Political Affairs - Kyle Sanniec, OMS I (ksanniec@atsu.edu)

The APA Chair is responsible for keeping members apprised of political developments within the state of Arizona that pertain to our interests as medical students and future osteopathic physicians. The Chair is also responsible for publicizing AZ DO Day at the Legislature to the class currently at Mesa, and organizing a contingent that aims to include the Arizona CHCs and the Mesa class.
 

Minority Health - Fay Roepcke, OMS I (fayroepcke@gmail.com)

Minority Health Chair will be focused on topics, issues, events, activities, etc. relating to the health and wellness of minorities in the community.



Community Outreach - Eleanor Price, OMS I (egprice@atsu.edu)

Community Outreach Chair will be focused on topics, issues, events, activities, etc. related to involvement in the community.

Community Health Center Representatives

There will be one representative at each Community Health Center site.  They will function as the liaison between all officers (including chairs) to the SOMA members at their CHC.  These individuals may also be in charge of service projects, fundraising, etc at their CHC if there is a need. Class standing during term: OMS II, OMS III, OMS IV.
