MY ASSIGNMENTS
The Schools-On-I-Net Assignments Module allows teachers to accomplish more in less time with a single entry while maintaining strong parental support.
• Assignments are automatically populated into the SOIN Lesson Plan and Grade Book and made available to parents and students online. Eliminate redundant efforts.
• Assign an activity for your class or for selected students.
• Set post dates so students and parents see assignments when you want them to.
• E-notifications: a daily School Work E-notification is sent to your class’ students and parents if assignments have been posted for the week. You may send additional email notifications to your class’ students and parents to alert them about special assignments.
• Tests are automatically entered into your (and your students’ and parents’) personal calendar feature.
• Parents and students can view assignments online to better be prepared for all classes and help manage time.
After logging in as a teacher, click on Academics on the left hand side navigation menu. Then click on the My Assignments link. The My Assignment page will show all current assignments for all your classes/subjects which have been posted with post dates that fall in this week and next week. To show all assignments you have posted online, click on the All Assignments link at the top of the page. To Search for an assignment click on the Show Search link to view search options.
Use these assignment navigation buttons to perform the following tasks:
• New Assignment – Enter a new homework, project report, unit test, quiz etc. You may enter assignments by week or by subject.
• Duplicate - choose an assignment you have entered in the past and reassign it as a new assignment for your other classes or reassign it to this class for another due date (so you don't have to type it over).
• e-Notify - send students and parents special e-notifications about assignments. This enotification will be emailed to parents and students in addition to the daily School Work Enotification email they receive. The daily e-notification is sent automatically when assignments have been posted by a student’s teachers.
• Assign Post Dates – add or modify the post date for your assignments. The Post Date is the date on which the assignment information becomes available to students and parents online. See when homework has been posted or is scheduled to be posted online
• Weekly View - displays a short summary of all assignments for all your classes/subjects which you have scheduled for the current week and the following week.
• Recur – set up an assignment to recur automatically Daily, Weekly or Monthly.
• Delete – Select the assignment records that you want to delete and click on the delete button.
• Note: Once an assignment has been graded, you cannot delete it from this section. You must delete graded assignments from the grade book.
• Search for a specific assignment by class, date assigned or due date, month and marking period or by any key word. Choose or type your search criteria and click on "Go"
• Review, Modify and Update the details of an assignment by clicking on Update. Make your changes and click on Save. Reset will clear any changes you have made and revert back to the original. Click on Close to close the window.
• Here are three dates important for each assignment:
Date Assigned - the date you assign the homework assignment in class Due Date - the date the assignment is due Post Date - the date parents and students may view the assignment online • You can see the posting status of your homework assignment (whether or not you have made it available to students and parents online by posting it).
Posted (red) indicates that you have posted your assignment online and that it is available to students and parents. You may modify this assignment, but you may not change the post date.
To be posted (blue) indicates that this assignment will automatically post on the assigned post date, shown in the same box. It will then become available for parents and students of the classes you selected. You may change the Post Date as well as the Student Selection for this homework.
Assign post date (green) indicates that you have saved this assignment and have selected the students and classes for it. You must select the post date; it will not become available to parents and students unless you do so. Assign students/post date (green) indicates that you have saved the assignment. You must now select the students and the post date.
New Assignment Quick Start Instructions:
1. Click on the New Assignment Button
2. Select the Class and Week from the top of the page 3. Select the Assignment Type (tell if it is a Homework, Test, etc.) 4. Enter the Assignment Details in the box next to the appropriate date on the left hand side.
5. Verify the Due Date of the assignment. Make changes as needed
6. The Post Date (date parents and students can see the assignment) is set to today’s date.
7. Scroll down, select the Assignment Type and enter Assignment Details for each day of the week.
8. Click on the Save Assignment button.
New Assignment Detailed Instructions: To enter a new assignment, click on the New Assignment button.
1. First, select the Class and Week for which you are entering this assignment. The current week is the default display.
2. Verify default settings: Verify that ALL students has been checked (default setting). This means that all students in the class will get this assignment. [If you want only selected students to get this assignment, select the checkbox next to Select Students. Enter the assignment, then click on Save. On the next page you will see a list of students for this class and there you can select the students who should get this assignment]. Verify that ‘None’ is selected for e-notify. A daily e-notification is sent to parents and students for all posted school work. If you want to send a special e-notification click on the circle next to Students.
3. Find the Assignment Date, select the assignment type, such as Homework, Project Report, Unit Test, or Quiz.
4. Enter the assignment details in the Assignment Details text box.
5. Select the Due Date and Post Date for this assignment. The default Post Date is today which means this assignment will be available to parents and students from today. The default Due Date one day after the Assignment Date. Make changes as needed to the dates. To hide the assignment from parents and students, uncheck the Post checkbox.
6. Grade Book information for assignment
a. Include in Grade Book checkbox. Choose whether or not you want to include this assignment in the Grade Book. If checked, this assignment will show in the grade book.
b. Extra Credit. If this is an extra credit assignment, select the Is Extra Credit Assignment checkbox. The total point value of the assignment will be zero. It will only add to the students’ earned points and will not affect the offered points.
c. Total Points/Marks. The total Points/Marks field lets the grade book know how much the assignment is worth. The Marks field is the total point value of the assignment. It does not need to be filled out for posting the assignment. But it is required for grading the assignment (unless it is an extra credit assignment).
I. If you grade using percentage and would like to enter the % for each student, then the Marks field should be entered as 100 for each assignment.
II. If you grade using percentages, but would like to use the SOIN grade book as a calculator, you may enter the number of questions on the assignment in the Marks field (i.e., if the homework assignment had 25 questions...enter 25 for total marks). Then in the student grade section, enter the number of questions the student answered correctly and the percentage will be calculated.
III. If you grade using the points method, then the total point value of the assignment should be entered in the total Marks field.
7. Options - Click on the Options button to add additional options for this assignment. You can instruct students on what to bring to school, what to take home with them and give them reference links to help them with this assignment. Once you have entered assignment options, they will appear below the assignment.
8. Attachments - You can include up to three attachments with an assignment.
a. Click on the Attachment button. b. Click on Browse
c. Search for your attachment and double click on it.
d. Click on Upload
9. To remove an attachment, select the attachment by clicking on the checkbox next to it and then click on the Remove Attachment button.
10. Click on the Spell Check button to check the spelling of the text you typed in. Click on the Preview button to preview your assignment.
11. Once you are done entering all the information, click on the Save Assignment button. The assignment is now saved and you will be brought back to My Assignment page. Back on the My Assignments page you will see the assignments you just posted, ordered by Due date and class. You will see the Assignment details, any attachments, the Category/Type and Post Date. To perform any of the actions described above (Delete, Duplicate, Recur…) first select the assignment by clicking the checkbox in the “Select” column. Then click on the action button. View Test/Project Report Calendar This feature allows teachers to view their students’ tests and projects that are due for other classes on a specific date to avoid work overload.
1. Start by clicking on the View Test/Project Report Calendar link.
2. The Test/Project Report Calendar opens. 3. Project reports are noted by PR, unit tests are noted by UT. PR-1(2) signifies that there is 1 project reports that is due on that date and there are 2 students in the class which have that assignment. 4. Holding the cursor over the link will give a “flyover” list of the students with the assignment. 5. By clicking on the PR-1(2) link, details of that assignments will appear listing the students, class and the teacher who made the assignment. 6. Add an assignment by clicking on the date link 7. Select the assignments type, details, post and due dates as previously outlined. Click Save and Close. 8. The Test/Project report screen now shows the added unit test: UT-1(20). The 20 represents the number of students in the class. Updating an Assignment 1. Locate the assignment you would like to update and click on the Update button. 2. On the Assignment Update page make changes to the assignment and click on the Save Assignment button. Your assignment changes have been saved. If you've already posted this assignment, and then updated it, parents and students will see two asterisks (**) next to the assignment, letting them know it has been modified. Duplicate an Assignment Select any assignment and duplicate it for the same class or for different classes. 1. Select the assignment you want to duplicate by selecting the checkbox in the Select column. Click on the Duplicate button. 2. On top of the Duplicate Assignments page you can see the details of the original assignment. Below that you will see a list of “target” classes. These are the classes that will receive the duplicated record. a. First select the Schedule Day as the Assignment Date from the dropdown menu. b. Then select the class by checking off the checkbox next to the class names. c. From the date’s dropdown menu, select the assignment Post Date and Due Date. d. Once you are done making your selection click on the Duplicate Assignment button. 3. Now back on the My Assignments page you will see this duplicated assignment. You will see a letter "D" in front of the assignment. This indicates that it is a duplicated assignment. Recur an Assignment Allows selecting an assignment and scheduling it to recur automatically Daily, Weekly or Monthly To set up a recurring assignment 1. Select the assignment you want to recur.
2. Select the checkbox in the Select column next to that assignment 3. Click on the Recur button. 4. On top of the Recur Assignment page you will see the original assignment details. Below that, you will see the recurring options. You can choose to recur this assignment Daily, Weekly or Monthly. Once you make your selection, choose the Until Date for this recurring assignment. Click on the Recur Assignment button once you are done. (You may enter at most 30 records at a time for the current marking period using this option. Therefore we ask that you select the end date.) 5. Back on the My Assignments page you will see the recurring assignments. All recurring assignments will have a letter "R" next to them which indicates they are recurring assignments. Assign Post Dates The Post Date is the date an assignment becomes available for students and parents to view online. The Assign Post Dates button allows teachers to change the post date of the selected assignment only if the assignment is scheduled to be posted at a future date. If the post date is today or in the past, you may not change it. 1. To change the Post Date of an assignment, locate the assignment on the My Assignment page and select the checkbox in the select column. Now click on the Assign Post Dates button as pictured below.
2. On the Post Assignment page you will see the assignment details on top. Below the assignment you will see Assignment Post Details. This is where you can change the post date. Select a different date from the dropdown menus and once you are done, click on the Post Assignment button. If you would like to go back to the previous page without making any changes you click on the My Assignment button. Your changes will not be saved. If you changed the post date and then clicked on the Post Assignment button, you will be taken back to the My Assignments page where you can see the post date has changed.
E-Notify
Send e-notification to parents and students about a particular assignment. This is in addition toa daily E-notification for School Work that is sent to parents and students if a student has assignments posted by any of his/her teachers
1. Select the assignment for which you want to send e-notification and click on the E-Notify button. 2. On the next page you will see a quick summary of the assignment and a list of students. Next to each student's name there is a small check box. Click on the check box to notify that student about this assignment. You can click on Clear All to clear the check box and Check All to select all names again. 3. Once you are done, click on the Save button Delete an Assignment 1. To delete an assignment, select the assignment you want to delete by checking off the checkbox in the Select column next to that assignment. 2. Once the assignment is selected, click on the Delete button. Please note that if an assignment has been graded, you will not be able to delete it from the Assignments Module. You must access the Grade Book in order to delete a graded assignment. Assignments entered in the My Assignments Module are automatically seen in the Lesson Plan and Grade Book. When you enter a lesson plan, the assignments will show up on the lesson plan preview and print pages. When you access your grade book, you will see any assignments for which the Include in Grade Book option was selected. |
