103days since
First Day

Kindergarten students seemed like they were a little hesitant about the prospect of going to first grade.  You'll be happy to hear that has all changed since they visited Ms. Saxer's classroom to take a look at her newly hatched luna moth.  Isaac says, "She even has a hamster!"  I must admit, even I am a little reluctant to see this group go.  It has been a great year.  Thank you all for being such great parents and sharing your delightful children with me!

This week I will be giving the students an informal Student Readiness Test.  It is in a standardized format, but instead of sending it away to be graded, I will be doing that.  I expect the students to do really well, but it is just a way to check for any gaps.  I will send the results home next week.

 PLANTS AND RECYCLING

For the next week and a half we will be talking about plants and reclying.  We will cover these topics in reading, writing, social studies, science, and art.

We have been trying to grow herbs in our classroom for some time now, but being in the basement doesn't provide us with much light.  This week we will learn (review) some plant vocabulary and look at how a seed is made in a flower.  We'll read some fiction, non-fiction, and poetry about flowers and gardens.

recycling symbol
With the new recycling station in Mt. Sterling and all the green talk in our nation, recycling has become a hot topic.  We will look at ways we can reduce, reuse, and recycle as well as learn to look for the recycling symbol on plastics.  Hopefully we will  made paper from old greeting cards (probably next week).
