Suitcase Mystery: A 6+1 Traits Writing Lesson

Kindergarten and First Grade were asked to help solve the Suitcase Mystery.  An unidentified suitcase had been found.  The only hope we had of identifying the owner was to open it up and look inside for clues.  Word choice would be important in communicating good descriptions of the items we had found.

"Do you have a XXL Hawaii shirt?" asked Eric and Ally.
I like that you not only included the type of shirt, but also the size!  Good going Ally and Eric!

"It is from Planet Hollywood.  It has red and white zigzag. It has words on the outside,"  Ty and Oakley said as they searched the hat inside and out.
The word "zigzag" gives me a great picture in my mind!

"(They are) made out of cotton.  (They are) old and torn," Isaac and Ethan replied when asked to describe the shorts they had found.
When I see the shorts I know that you made some good word choices when you used "old", "torn", and "cotton"!

"(The t-shirt has printed on it) Illinois Just for Kids Farm.  (It is an) extra large t-shirt.  It is made out of thread."  Faith and Katie also told me they suspect the owner of the suitcase is from Illinois, because there was a picture of a farm with the word "Illinois" on the shirt.
Great detective work, girls, for including the important details.

I'm sorry to say we have not yet found the owner, but with the great choice of words we have here, we haven't given up hope yet!  If you recognize any of these items, please be sure and let us know in the Kindergarten class at St. Mary School.
