Pajama Day November 19, 2009

P is for PAJAMAS
In order to create an association for students with the sound of the letter P, we planned a Pajama Day in Kindergarten.  We read some books about pancakes (If You Give a Pig a Pancake and Pancakes, Pancakes by Eric Carle), made a list of the necessary ingredients, and then cooked our own pancakes.  Also, since pajamas really aren't any fun unless you can curl up and read a good book when you're wearing them, we invited guest readers.  We were fortunate enough to have several visitors come and share some of their favorite books with us.

Throughout the week we read, acted out, and retold the story of The Three Pigs.  When retelling the story I asked the students how we could show more than one event in a story on one piece of paper. One student suggested that we fold the paper in half and make a book, and so that is what we did.  The students did a tremendous job drawing pictures that represented four main events in the story and then verbally retelling the story in their own words.

Recent Kindergarten Writings:

The Star Wars airplane shot at bad guys.  The bad guys were still alive, because it was a pretend shotgun.  Then the bad guys were going home and they were tired.  They ate supper before they went to sleep.       WG

Me and Daddy are going to DOT to get some food.  I am staying in the truck while Daddy is getting some food for supper.  He is getting grapes and cheese and pepperoni and he is getting stuff for tonight.      JW

I like my friends very much.  I play with my friends.  I really like to go to recess.  Right now we are taking a walk.  My friends are really nice.  EC

This ship was in space.  It “ka-bonked” into bad airplanes.  The ships were so huge the only way they could get them down is to throw little fireballs at the top.  Then as soon as they got them down, they went to Darth Vader’s planet.  When they shot something, the planet was blowing up.
