This 2-day workshop focuses on Integrated Manual Therapies (IMT), a mindful blend of interrelated modalities that sees optimal health as a function of all body systems moving and communicating harmoniously. By selectively integrating structural techniques, craniosacral and visceral manipulation, IMT is a multidisciplinary approach to mobilizing and organizing the body at core levels.
Day 1 - "Body Analysis"
Much of the art and science of manual therapy lies in our ability to strategize an intervention based on what we see and feel. Long before technique, perceiving subtle variations in tissue mobility and tone are important keys to interpreting structure and problem solving to a deeper level. This class will zero in on customizing strategies to meet the specific needs of different body types. With an understanding of the relationships between the axial complex (cranium, spine, sacrum, and ribs) and the pelvic and shoulder girdles, underlying "structural types" will emerge and deepen our insight into the body; meeting the body on its own terms.
Students will learn an assessment protocol of joint biomechanics and soft tissue tone as evaluative tools for whole body treatment. Both visceral and musculoskeletal anatomy will be covered to offer an integrated system perspective. This class is also appropriate for yoga, pilates, and gyrotonics teachers; personal trainers; somatic psychologists; and anyone genuinely interested in uncovering and rediscovering their body.
* Postural Analysis - Seeing anatomical relationships
* Palpatory Analysis - Feeling anatomical relationships; Motion Testing
* Polyfascial Perspective - Craniosacral, Musculoskeletal, Neural, Visceral
* Structural Strategies - "Structural Types," "Primary Lesion," & Adaptation
* Clinical Applications - Holistic, Orthopedic, & Movement Education
* Experiential Movement - Embodiment and evolution of class concepts
Day 2 - "Spinal Biomechanics"
This will be an active, hands-on class addressing basic spinal biomechanics and associated soft tissue strain patterns to release the spine at core levels. Structural strategies, palpation, joint and myofascial mobilization techniques will be covered. Joint play, end range and leverage concepts will also be taught. Associated craniosacral and visceral anatomy will be introduced. This class will complement a massage therapist's current skills and offer new ways of helping clients with back pain.
