cherry blossoms

In Japan I enjoyed observing sakura flowers float everywhere in the parks, mountains and river sites. When the winds blew, blossom petals danced like snow flakes. When the sun hit,  they glistened brighter.

In Japan, cherry trees were planted and cultivated for their beauty to adorn the grounds of the rich and the noble. They represent extreme feminine beauty, they are an omen of good fortune, love and spring. It is a dreamlike experience to sit quietly in nature, sip green tea and watch sakura cover the ground.

They are richly symbolic and they are often used in poetry and art. Here is one of the poems:

            Cherry Blossoms, Cherry Blossoms
On Meadow-hills and mountains
As far as you can see.
Is it a mist, or clouds?
Fragrant in the morning sun.
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
Flowers in full bloom.
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
Across the Spring sky,
As far as you can see.
Is it a mist, or clouds?
Fragrant in the air.
Come now, come,
Let’s look, at last!
