Share-a-Map

Share-a-map is an AOL AIM plugin that let you share maps with a friend via AIM in an interactive way. This plugin can be extremely useful when you want to share a location, route or place with a friend or relative, plus other features like add images and hand drawing overlays, find an address or point, save your map, among others.

How get it?

  1. You can get Share-a-map here [mirror]

  2. Close AIM
  3. Execute the installer
  4. Start AIM
  5. In order to share a map, the same Share-a-map version must be installed in your friend computer.

How use it?

After you install Share-a-map, you'll see the option "Share a map with your buddy..." when you make right click in any of your buddies, or you can also use the same option in an IM window. As appear in the image:

 
Then, your friend will receive your invitation, if he/she rejects it or if he/she doesn’t have the plugin installed, you will receive a message with this information. But if he/she accepts the invitation, a new window will be open.
 
 

The Share-a-map window has the following modes:

• Map mode: On this mode, you can manipulate the map. Through the following tools:

    • Using the zoom and location your view, using the mapquest integrated tools.
    • Select map mode between (street map, aerial image and hybrid map) using the tool in the lower part of the map.
    • Add new point, just select the new point icon and click in the map.
    • Locate a point. Just enter the address or place name in the textbox in the toolbar and click in the find button.
    • Clear the map including points added

• Draw mode: On this mode, you can manipulate the drawing overlay. Through the following tools:

    • Pen tool: You can use this tool to create free hand drawing in the map.
    • Eraser tool: With this tool, you can delete images and free hand lines previously created.
    • Image tool: You can use this tool to paste an image to the overlay.
    • Palette tool: With this tool, you can change your pen's active color.
    • And you can also clear the drawing overlay using the "Clear" button.
Finally, you have the option to save your map using the "Save" button, or syncronize your map view with your friend with the "My buddy´s view" button.
