Screening of

Penusah Tana (The Forgotten Struggle)

Hilary Chiew, 2007

This documentary depicts the story of Ajang Kiew, a Penan Leader, who for 20 years has been setting up road blocks to protect his land from the intrusion of logging companies. This is a highly topical issue at the moment in light of the EU agreement which requires the imported timber to be ‘legal timber’ and Malaysia’s definition of this term.

Hilary Chiew

Hilary Chiew has been an environmental journalist for 8 years until recently and has written extensively on issues affecting the environment and the Indigenous Peoples in Malaysia.

Darrel Abercrombie

At the height of the anti-logging campaign, in 1987, 10 year old Darrel from Surrey wrote a letter to Dr Mahathir. The Prime Minister wrote back with the full might of his scorn.
