Orchestra Records on Naxos

The Conservatory Orchestra, with Music Director Andrew Mogrelia, faculty violinist Axel Strauss and Conservatory recording engineer Jason O’Connell are in the midst of an exciting recording project this November—to be continued in February, 2009. The ensemble is recording three rare Kreutzer violin concerti on the Naxos label. Rodolphe Kreutzer (1766-1831) was a French violinist, conductor and composer whose compositions include nineteen violin concertos, forty operas and the fundamental pedagogic studies 42 études ou caprices. The concertos – No. 17 in G Major, No. 18 in E Minor, and No. 19 in D Minor – are rarely performed and have never been recorded.

It’s not everyday that you get to make a “record”. Let’s follow graduate student cellist Michelle Kwon into the studio to get a behind-the-scenes look into the project.  You can find her blog here.
