Advent began November 29 this year. It is the first day of the Church's New Year. We'll celebrate with a New Year's celebration and prayers for Advent.
6+1 Writing Traits Program
Have you ever read a story and noticed how the author's use of language gave a piece of writing a 'voice'? That's what we're thinking about as we return from Thanksgiving. We'll see some examples and then write our own piece trying to convey to the reader a sense of the character's voice.
What's New This Month?
It's all about keeping Christ in Christmas. Daily prayers and discussions linking Jesus' message to our Christmas celebration remind students of the importance of keeping this celebration holy.

Reading Corner This week we're reading about a tricky hare and how he tricks a very gullible bear into helping him feed himself (and his family). In this animal fantasy we will consider the author's purpose in writing a selection. We'll use the title, the pictures, and the story to determine what message the author is trying to convey.
Math Matters
This week we're modeling multiplication and linking it to repeated addition. We'll practice with the tables we already know (1, 0, 2, 5, and 10). We will play multiplication bingo and multiplication baseball to improve our skills.
Social Studies
We continue to think about the communities we live in here in the United States. They can be very different depending on the geography, history, and the people who live there. We begin our journey by exploring the word 'community'. We'll think about what makes a community and what we know about them. From there, we travel to different communities in our country to see how they're the same and how they're different.
Science
We've begun a new science unit about energy. Where does it come from? What kinds are there? What is it used for. We'll explore a topic that most third graders love to play with. Different kinds of potential and kinetic energy will be noticed in our classroom, on the playground, and everywhere around us!
From our patron saint:
"Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance."
