25 August 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 20
This weeks evening 10 was cancelled due to the severe weather conditions. Award listings for the 2010 series will be posted in due course.

19 August 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 19
Results from this weeks evening 10 can be found here. Congrats to Freddie Lewton for taking the win with a seven second improvement of his PB. It was a windy night that saw some riders struggle though that didn't stop Nicky Russell, Julian Wilson and Brian Mallard from also setting course records. Next week is the last evening 10 of this years series and will again start at 18:45.

12 August 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 18
Results from this weeks evening 10 can be found here. A nice, light, evening saw Peter Georgi take the honours on the night with third place rider Freddie Lewton lowering his own J16 course record by one second.

Don't forget that the final two events start have the first rider off at 18:45 to cater for the falling light levels.

7 August 2010 - Arthur Powell 2010 Competition Results
Final results for the 2010 Arthur Powell series are available and can be found here. Congratulations to runaway winner and second claim member Adrian Bult who was consistently ahead in the points standings during the final stages of the competition. Simon Beddoes was in a strong second place with Martin Bird and Gary Lewis tied for third. Congratulations also to Lydia Leighton for being the best placed female rider. With many course records set throughout the season (seemingly many more than last year) it will be interesting to see who of the 148 riders who were eligible this year place well next year.

6 August 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 16 and 17
Results from the past two weeks evening 10's are now up on the website. Congrats to Dave Leighton and Rob Dixon for taking the wins. Week 16 saw the total number of riders to have ridden the course break the 250 barrier ... hopefully all won't turn up on the same night! Riders are reminded that the the farmers are currently harvesting the fields so be aware of tractors on the course. Full results can be found here

Week 17's event saw the final event in the 2010 Arthur Powell series. Final standings will be up on the website as soon as possible (drum roll).

There are three weeks remaining in the 2010 evening 10 series. Next week retains the 7pm start though the final two weeks will have the first rider off at 18:45. Be aware that total numbers of riders may be limited if light levels are poor on the night to ensure the last rider finishes in daylight.

22 July 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 15 and Arthur Powell Week 8
Torrential rain arrived just prior to the start of this weeks event which saw very wet roads and a number of early starters opt to DNS. Thankfully, the rain eased off for the competitors albeit with vision a little on the dark side. Peter Georgi took the win, though the conditions saw second and third placed riders Rob Dixon and Dave "KitMan" Leighton record course bests. It remains tight in the Arthur Powell series (runaway points leader Adrian Bult is not eligible for the trophy). Full results can be found here and Arthur Powell standings here.

16 July 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 14 and Arthur Powell Week 7
Black rain clouds were blown over Wales, and dry roads greeted the field of 40 riders who took part in this weeks event.  The windy conditions saw club strong-man Matthew "Matt" Burbridge improve by one placing to take the victory this week. It's still all to play for in the Arthur Powell series with little change in the overall standings and only three counting events to go. 7 July 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 13 and Arthur Powell Week 6
A cool night with a nasty wind saw a relatively small field of 37 riders take part in this weeks event. Evening 10 stalwart Chris Davis took the win, though the tough night meant little change to the overall Arthur Powell standings. With four weeks remaining in the AP series, that competition remains wide open. Full results can be found here and Arthur Powell standings here.

1 July 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 12 and Arthur Powell Week 5
Another warm evening with slightly unfavourable wind conditions saw 60 riders take part in this weeks evening 10 with Rob Lyne again taking the honours. Full results can be found here and Arthur Powell standings here.

25 June 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 11 and Arthur Powell Week 4
Warm and windy conditions saw a maximum field of 70 riders take part in this weeks evening 10. First and second positions were the same as the previous week though Tom Bertenshaw closed the gap a little to Rob Lyne. It's nicely hotting up in the Arthur Powell series with a number of riders in close contention. Full results can be found here and Arthur Powell standings here.

19 June 2010 - Google Groups Redirect problem
An ongoing problem with all Google Groups is affecting Firefox users (like me) at the moment. If you find access to the forum fails and your browser gets stuck in an infinite redirect loop, then go to Tools- Options- Privacy- Show Cookies and remove the groups.google.com and/or groups.google.co.uk cookies. Thanks to Rich for spotting this.

16 June 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 10 & Arthur Powell Week 3
A warm and windy evening saw 60 riders complete the course, though conditions meant that there were very few PB's compared to last week. The event was won by Rob Lyne who came within three seconds of matching the course record he set in 2009. The Arthur Powell series stabilised with a number of riders closely matched at the top of the leader board. Full results can be found here and Arthur Powell standings here.

10 June 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 9 & Arthur Powell Week 2
A pleasant but what appeared to be windy evening saw 39 of 59 riders complete the course and set personal bests. The event was won by Tom Bertenshaw (a PB) beating SRC fastman Simon Haward into second place by almost half a minute. The slew of PB's saw a shake up to the Arthur Powell table, though with 8 weeks remaining in the competition, it's still up for anybody (providing that they are first or second claim SRC). 2 June 2010 - InterClub & Evening 10 Series Week 8
Results from the annual InterClub 10, between SRC, DRC, GCCC and BSCC and organised by Dave Boddy on behalf of the Severn (Thanks Dave) can be found here. GCCC are the overall winner (again) with the Severn in fourth place mostly down to lack of riders!

Results from the coincidental Evening 10 event can be found here. Note that due to the clash with the InterClub, times do not count towards the Arthur Powell series - this resumes as normal next week.

27 May 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 7 & Arthur Powell Week 1
Torrential rain greeted the first group of riders though cleared to leave a very fast night. On the first evening of the 2010 Arthur Powell series 22 riders set Personal Best's with course records from Freddie Lewton, Charlie Bradley-Veilands & Elsa Bromhall. The InterClub 10 is to be held next week - a standard evening 10 will still be ran, though times from it will not count towards the 2010 Arthur Powell series, except in determining the end of season PB for next year.

27 May 2010 - Headphone wearing during Evening 10
A reminder to all that the wearing of headphones during the evening 10 is prohibited. Common sense and CTT regulation 19a prohibit this.

21 May 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 6
On a better evening, Simon Haward set the fastest time, with a course equalling women's record from Anna Fischer and new age records set by Freddie Lewton and Elsa Bromhall. Full results can be found here. Don't forget that the Arthur Powell series starts next week (though is then followed by a weeks break for the Interclub 10).

12 May 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 5
A truly miserable night with falling temperatures nonetheless saw 52 riders take part, with 7 course PB's set and Peter Georgi winning (again). Full results can be found here. Next week is the final week to set a PB before the Arthur Powell series commences. As is usual for the competition, but not possible last year due to the first use of the course, riders best time from the current and preceeding season will set the benchmark.

5 May 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 4
A calm, though not overly warm (again), night saw Rob Lyne interrupt Peter Georgi's winning streak to lead the full field with an impressive 20:51 that was just 5 seconds outside his own course record. Age records were set by Peter Georgi, Louise Georgi and Emily Baynes. Full results can be found here.

28 April 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 3
A warm evening saw Peter Georgi continue his winning streak at the evening 10's with another lowering of his age record beating course record holder Rob Lyne into second place by two seconds. Similarly Freddie Lewton lowered his own age record. Full results can be found here.

24 April 2010 - First club record of the year set
Three wheeling club member John Thompson took advantage of a late start number and warmer conditions in the Bath CC 10 on the U47 to improve his own Vet's 10 On Standard record with a +8.26 from an overall time of 24:36.

21 April 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 2
Another chilly but sunny evening saw another maximum field (57 riders this week, including 10 J category riders which could well be a record in itself), with Giant CC rider Peter Georgi taking the honours and knocking a second off his own age record. Fellow clubmate Freddie Lewton set another age record taking 3:11 off the week old record set by Rob Pritchard. Full results can be found here.

15 April 2010 - Evening 10 Series Week 1
A chilly but dry day saw the first of the 2010 Evening 10 series take place. A full field, limited to 47 riders due to fading light levels, took part. John Russell took the honours on the night with a 21:40 with Louise Georgi setting the VL40 course record and Rob Pritchard setting the J16 record. John Thompson was the first rider to complete the course on a trike setting that record and Emily Baynes set the first L13 course record. Full results can be found here.

6 March 2010 - Evening 10 Series
The Severn RC evening 10 series will be taking place from April 14th to August 25th using the Old-down to Tockington course first used in 2009. Details can be found here. Due to the increased numbers seen in recent years, the first three events (Apr 14/21/28) and last two (Aug 18/25) will start at 6:45 to minimise the numbers of riders prevented from racing as the light fades.

29 December 2009 - RAAM Presentation
Ann Wooldridge will be giving a slideshow about her epic marathon ride across America on Friday 15th Jan at Bradley Stoke Jubilee centre. Admission is free but please e-mail Graham Smith if you are going so that we have an idea of the numbers attending.

29 December 2009 - Prize Presentation
This will be held on the 30^th January at Winterbourne community centre (BS36 1QG, OS 658815), starting at 7:30pm. Tickets can be obtained from Graham Smith at £7 each.

28 December 2009 - Boxing Day 10
Don't forget that the annual Boxing Day 10 is coming up shortly (weather permitting). The first rider is due of at 10:30am on the Iron Acton course (Wotton Road just north of lights at B4058 – B4058 junction at OS 683838; not the usual evening 10 location). There will be free tea/coffee and biscuits at the HQ which is immediately outside Parkers Garden Centre and entry is free.

31 October 2009 - Result In Bristol Duathlon

Well done to Rob Dixon who came third in the Bristol Duathlon last Sunday.  Rob was second fastest on the bike leg and only one of three to go under the hour.  Pics and results on

 

Second claim Anna Fisher (Max Gear RT) won the Ladies National Hill Climb with a time of 4:55.2 over the 1200 yard course.  Anna beat reigning champion and favourite Lyn Hamel (Team NCA) by 0.5 seconds.  Looks like Anna played it cool as Lyn was up by 13 seconds on the split. Making it three in a row Severn's Neil Bessitt retained his title in the C category (50-59) with a time of 4:11.7 and was also faster than the winner of the 45-49 category by some considerable margin too!

This year sees the return of John Thompson’s famous mile-eating weekend to meet with his Anfield clubmates.  here

 

31st August 2009 - Another club record smashed
On Sunday Bernie Brown did 1:02:53 in the Hirwaen 25. At 71 that gave him a plus of 20:14, a one second beating of John Thompson's previous club record. Congrats Bernie!

13th August 2009 - Evening 10 Week 18 and Final Arthur Powell results
A dry, windy, night saw some decent times with event winner Rob Lyne coming within a second of his course record. It was the final night in the Arthur Powell series with another personal best by Tim Fenner extending his lead and a PB from Rob Pritchard allowing him to leap over Ray Hughes into second place. Congrats to all three and commiserations to Mike Lane who just missed out on a podium place by two seconds in the final event! Evening 10 results here and Arthur Powell standings are here.

9th August 2009 - SRC Open 25 results
Calm and pleasant conditions for standing out in the sun watching folk race made a welcome change to previous "Summer 25" conditions. Thanks to Martin for organising an excellent event, with results up on the Open Events page.

9th August 2009 - Evening 10 Week 17 and Arthur Powell Week 9
Unseasonably warm and dry conditions saw 58 riders take part in the 17th evening 10 event and the penultimate counting event in the Arthur Powell series. The decent condition saw Rob Lyne take the win on the night with Freddie Lewton improving his own course record. Tim Fenner once more improved his best time and looks to have gained a commanding lead in the AP trophy competition. A well timed improvement from Rob Pritchard saw him close to within a point of second place behind Ray Hughes. 29th July 2009 - Evening 10 Week 16
Due to the inclement weather resulting in unacceptable road conditions for racing, tonights event was cancelled. As such, the Arthur Powell series will be extended by a further week to compensate.

25th July 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 15 and Arthur Powell Week 8
With times slightly slower again in inclement weather conditions, Dave Keene again took the win on the night though not as quick as in the previous week. There are only two weeks to go in the Arthur Powell series, and although there was no change in the order for the top three, it's still open to any one of the three to take the championship. 18th July 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 14 and Arthur Powell Week 7
Breezy conditions saw a few course records being set with Dave Keene setting a V50 record and winning the event for his first ride on the course. There was a slight change in the Arthur Powell series with Tim Fenner taking over the lead. Only three counting events in that competition now. 8th July 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 13 and Arthur Powell Week 6
Slightly chilly conditions and an unfavourable wind saw very few riders making improvements and therefore little change to the top three in the Arthur Powell series. 5th July 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 12 and Arthur Powell Week 5
Decent conditions saw 55 riders turn out for the weekly evening 10 on what was the halfway point of the Arthur Powell competition. There was no change to the overall standings in the AP series even though the warm conditions saw a number of PB's and new course records for Astrid Gibbs, Jacqueline Wadsworth and Jane Leslie. 26th June 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 11 and Arthur Powell Week 4
Excellent conditions on the night resulted in most riders setting a personal best with new course records in a number of categories including the overall. The glut of PB's has shaken up the Arthur Powell series which has developed into a three horse race with 6 counting events remaining meaning it's still possible for a number of other riders to catch up. Errata: A correction to a previous statement. It has been decided that the original scoring system will be retained and as such GCCC are now classified as the winners of the 2009 InterClub due to their total number of points vastly exceeding all the other clubs...

22nd June 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 10 and Arthur Powell Week 3
Poor weather conditions saw a smaller than usual turn out and very little change to the overall results in the Arthur Powell series. Congrats to Jerry Seymour for taking the victory on the night. Evening 10 results here and Arthur Powell standings are here.

11th June 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 9 and Arthur Powell Week 2
On a night of strange weather patterns, 52 riders took part in the Evening 10 competition with some stunning improvements in times that has already resulted in some big scoring in the Arthur Powell series. Simon Haward won (again), though Paul Chapman, Bernie Brown, Freddie Lewton and Rachel Johnson all set records in their respective categories. A breakaway group of four riders is apparent in the Arthur Powell series, with SRC riders Mike Lane and Tim Fenner in the joint lead on 22 points. Very early days though... A reminder to all evening 10 participants: Could riders refrain from using the field behind the back of the HQ as "facilities". The fields are overlooked by a number of houses and complaints have been made. The Parish Council have kindly allowed us to use the (almost perfect) location we're currently based in, so it would be a shame to lose it! Efforts are underway to identify if an alternate choice is possible...

3rd June 2009 - InterClub 10 and Evening 10 results
The annual interclub 10 was held on the U7b between SRC, Dursley, Gloucester and Bristol South. 59 riders signed on with GCCC again dominating in numbers. The event was ran this year by SRC (particularly Dave Boddy who did an excellent job) with the points scheme modified slightly from previous years whereby 60 pts for fastest, 59 for second etc as in previous years with the addition of removing the weighting towards riders by scoring the overall as an average points per number of riders.

It's not a stich up but Severn RC finally won the event after years of being close. Overall scores were SRC 38.83, GCCC 32.79, DRC 29.06, BSCC 25.11. Complete results can be found here.

Evening 10 results can be found here. On a fast night where the SRC fastmen were taking part in the Interclub Rob Lyne took the win with records improved in the VL40, VL50, U16 and V60 categories. A large number of riders improved on their best times though note that this week was not an Arthur Powell counting event and those times will not count towards the competition!

31st May 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 7 and Arthur Powell Week 1
For the first time in a few weeks, Simon Haward didn't win the SRC evening 10 on what was a blustery but dry evening. Results can be found here. This was the first event in the Arthur Powell series (with a weeks break while the Interclub 10 is held next week) that saw Adam Iles ride into a commanding lead with almost two minutes improvement. Very early days in the competition though with current Arthur Powell standings here. Next wednesday is the annual Interclub 10 held on the U7b (A38 north of Stone to Whitminster roundabout and back), though a normal evening 10 will also be held for those riders who can't make it out to the Interclub.

24rd May 2009 - Paul Breaks the Hour
For the first time in may a year Paul Chapman broke the hour with a 58:41 on the R25/7 in Wales this morning.  It was warm and sunny with a headwind, which by the time Paul (and Steve H) started, had dropped enough for Paul to record his time.  Well done that man!   The other Severn riders were Steve Hocter who did a seasons best of 1:05:50 and Matthew Burbridge who did a 54:50 (as I said there was a head wind!).  Also Astrid Gibbs (once an Severn rider always a severn rider) broke the hour with a 58:43. Well done to both Paul and Astrid!

 

23rd May 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 6
A reasonable but breezy day saw Simon Haward continue to dominate the evening 10 series setting a new course record in the process. He was joined by Freddie Lewton (J15), Astrid Gibbs (LS) and Gordon Lewis (V6) who all set records in their respective categories. Results can be found here. 15th May 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 5
After a wet day, the rain held off to leave damp roads and a fast course. Simon Haward again took the result matching his best time and the course record. Results can be found here.

8th May 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 4
Surpassing the toughness of the previous week with strong gales, times were again down on previous weeks. It didn't stop Simon Haward from winning again with a slightly slower time indicating that a tailwind on the final section may be fun but doesn't make for a fast course overall. 30th April 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 3
On what was probably the toughest night so far on the new course, times were generally down on previous weeks. It didn't stop Simon Haward from putting in an excellent ride to pip the fledgling course record by a mere two seconds and ensure for the first time that the Senior and Vet's course records are distinct. 24th April 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 2
Another good night and a much larger field for the second week of the evening 10 season. Congratulations to Chris Madge for setting a course record and knocking Matt out of the record books already! Results can be found here.

15th April 2009 - Evening 10 Results Week 1
With the passing of a fairly severe thunderstorm 90 minutes before the off, the first of the evening 10 series was conducted in pleasant conditions, albeit with damp roads. Congratulations to Matt Burbridge for setting a course record - helped by this being the first event on the new Olveston based circuit. Results can be found here.
