The Scottish Rite Clinic is a growing pediatric therapy clinic serving children in Billings and surrounding areas. The Eugene F. Herman Scottish Rite Language Disorders Clinic (The Scottish Rite Clinic) has been in the Billings community for 11 years in its original form. The Clinic was named for its principal donor, Eugene F. Herman, a dedicated Scottish Rite member, who saw a need for services for the speech and language impaired children of our community. Since January of 2007, with an enhanced new team, we have expanded on Mr. Herman’s vision by not only increasing the speech and language services offered, but also by adding physical and occupational therapy services. This was a needed change as research has proven the effectiveness of a TEAM approach to therapy. Studies have shown that children are able to make more progress with all member of the TEAM working together for the benefit of the child.
Our mission is to provide exceptional speech, occupational, and physical therapy with a TEAM approach to children who are affected by a variety of disabilities.
Our vision is to ensure that the children in our community have the skills that they need to succeed at home, in school, and in life. We achieve our mission by involving the entire family in the therapy process, offering programs housed at a state-of-the-art facility, and maintaining the highest level of qualified professionals.
We are one of the three Scottish Rite Clinics in Montana, with the other two located in Missoula and Great Falls. The Scottish Rite Clinic is a tax exempt, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organizations. The Scottish Rite Clinic depends on limited funds from private insurance and Medicaid as well as donations for operation. The Scottish Rite Clinic has an active fundraising committee to plan, coordinate, and execute fund raising activities. We currently provide 500 therapy sessions per month and serve 175 children with varying degrees of need each week.
The TEAM approach at the Scottish Rite Clinic offers many unique therapy approaches to children in the community. We provide therapy in individual, group, co-treat, and/or back-to-back therapy sessions. Most of the children receive traditional individual therapy session. These individual sessions range from 45 minutes to an hour. Our clinic also offers group therapy in which there 2-3 therapists facilitating a group with up to 8 children. The focus of these groups is not only to provide social interaction and peer modeling opportunities but also to enhance receptive and expressive language skills, improve articulation, encourage sensory tolerance, and increase fine and gross motor capabilities. Co-treat therapy sessions consist of two therapists with one child working on different goals simultaneously. We also offer back-to-back therapy sessions in which the child receives 2-3 therapies one after another ensuring carryover and providing easier scheduling for parents.
