Grading Policies & Procedures

HOMEWORK & LATE WORK POLICIES

Homework assignments are given nearly every day.  Students are well aware of their assignments.  Students are required to complete their homework and turn it in on or before its due date.  If an assignment is not completed by the due date, your child will receive a “0” in the grade book.  Students will have 3 days from the date that is posted in PowerSchool to complete and turn it in.  Assignments handed in within these 3 days will receive a 10% reduction in the grade, after which it will become a permanent “0”. During the 2nd trimester, the late assignment penality will increase to 20%.  Late assignments will not be accepted during the 3rd trimester.

I would strongly encourage you to set up your PowerSchool account settings so that you will receive an e-mail notification if a “0” appears.  This will help you stay on top of missing assignments before its too late to hand them in.

This policy is in effect for all classes taught by Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Dorset with the exception of math.  Due to the nature of the Everyday Math program, we use a Grade Calc to keep track of daily homework grades.  Please refer to the math syllabus for specific information on grading policies.

From time to time there may be a situation that makes it difficult to complete an assignment on time. If there are extenuating circumstances preventing homework completion, it is expected that you notify the teacher prior to or on the due date in order to receive credit. Missing work may result in no recess until assignment turn in is back on track.

Our district guideline for homework at sixth grade is approximately 60 minutes a night maximum.  If your child is continuously over this time limit, please contact us immediately.

GRADING, TESTS, and PROJECTS

Tests will always be announced well in advance.  Expect to see graded assignments and tests posted on-line within 3-5 days.  Larger writing assignments and projects will take longer.  Daily communication of your child’s grade happens via the on-line grade book, PowerSchool.  Therefore I will assume you are aware of your child’s academic progress at all times unless you indicate to me another method is needed.

For projects I use rubrics that clearly convey what needs to be done to attain each grade.  Progress reports and report cards are now accessed on line.  Heritage School has returned to trimesters.  Every six and a half weeks you will be receiving an on-line progress report or report card via your on-line account.  If you have any concerns about your child’s grades between these grading periods, please contact me directly.
