Dear St. Charles Parents, Students, Families, and Friends,
The fall sports season is drawing to a close and our St. Charles teams have performed very well. We would like to thank the following coaches for their time and effort in making the fall volleyball and football seasons so successful.
Girls Varsity Volleyball A Michael Lesniak
Girls JV Volleyball A Tom Stepanof
Boys Varsity Football Bill Hamlin
Please thank the coaches when you see them and root our teams on in the playoffs. Also, thanks to St. Vincents and their JV football team. Several of our 4th and 5th graders played on their team this season while several St. Vincent players played on our varsity football team.
The winter sports season will be upon us soon. This includes basketball and soccer. We are sending this out to ensure that everyone receives an invitation and permission slip to play for their class. Please return your permission slip with your $40 fee to the school office by Thursday, November 19, 2009. We would like to have an idea of how many teams we will field and allow coaches to begin planning preseason practices in December. Coaches will set their own practice schedules. The winter season usually starts the second week in January and runs into the first week of March. Occasionally we will have an earlier start. The schedules have not been determined yet. It is very important that we receive the registration sheets for your child on time as we will be coordinating with other schools to play with their teams if we are short players for a particular team.

Several parents have volunteered to coach. Please email me at the address below to confirm that you wish to coach.. Please call me or email me at the address below if you have questions or would like to volunteer. We always need additional coaches or assistants. We generally like to have a minimum of 14 students on soccer teams and at least 7 students for basketball. If we do not get enough students or coaches for teams we will attempt to join anothers school’s team or have them join our team. Should that fail, we will not field that team. Please do not wait till the last minute to sign up or volunteer.
I would like to reiterate our position regarding sports participation at St. Charles. It is really great when classmates play together on their St. Charles teams. It builds a special spirit and bond. Even so, many children are participants in outside activities and sports and that is great. Many of these leagues and activities overlap with our seasons. It is up to you, the parents /guardians to ensure that your child is not overbooked and can participate in a reasonable manner in the sport they choose. This includes an expectation for practices and games. If an individual is not a participant in practices, it should not be an expectation to have equal participation in games. Finally, if an athlete is going to having a conflict between sport seasons, please inform the coach. It lets the other players and the coach down and it sends the wrong message when a player leaves a team to go play another sport.
Through all your help, St. Charles will continue to be a dynamic and positive influence on parochial sports throughout the diocese. Thank you for your participation. GO WARRIORS!.
Sincerely,
Chris Stevenson
