Problem of the Week

for Tuesday, September 24, 2013

The design for a flower garden is a rectangle. The boundary between the blue (B) and white (W) flowers is made of tangent circular arcs. If the white and the blue flowers are the same size and if the number of white flowers in the completely filled section marked W is sixty-five, how many blue flowers are needed to fill the sections marked W? How many additional white flowers are needed to fill all the unmarked sections with white?
