A new country has been formed. Its flag is pictured below. After the election, two of the ten states are so unhappy with the selection of president that they decide to leave the union. The flag now needs to be changed from one with ten stripes to one with eight stripes. Can you show how to cut the flag into two pieces that can be resewn in order to form a rectangular flag with eight stripes and with the same area as the original flag?
