Problem of the Week

for Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Two triangles can intersect to split the plane up into as many as eight different regions. Two quadrilaterals (four-sided polygons) can intersect to split the plane up into at most how many different regions? Include your picture with your answer. (The Math Department would like to thank a former Saint Ann's teacher, Dan Finkel, for suggesting this problem.)
