Problem of the Week

Tuesday, November 21, 2017

Several years ago, Uncle Pascal invited you over to his house for Thanksgiving dinner. Before you were allowed to eat, you had to answer the following questions. "The pumpkin that I used for the pumpkin soup, the turkey, and the apples that I used for the apple pie all had weights upon purchase that were two-digit prime numbers in pounds. What's more, the weight of the apples and the pumpkin add to the date of my sister's birthday earlier this month, the weight of the pumpkin and the turkey add up to the date of my birthday later this month, and the weight of the apples and the turkey sum to the date today. What were the weights of the pumpkin, the turkey, and the apples before I cooked them?" In your answer, include the day on which Thanksgiving fell that particular year.
