Problem of the Week

My husband and I recently took a tour of Saint Ann's School. There were three other couples in our tour group, and as we shook hands we are started bragging about our talented children (it was quite obvious that my child was the most talented). It just so happens that among the seven other parents besides myself, each shook a different number of hands. (in other words, one of them shook hands with six other parents, one with five, one with four, and so on down to one parent who did not shake hands with anyone.) Of course no one shook hands with themselves or their own spouse. The question is, how many hands did I shake?
