Fallbrook, CA Robert J. Hamilton, Democratic candidate for the 49th Congressional Seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, today announced his position on the growing energy crisis and its impact on our economy and national security. Hamilton’s Position: "Developing alternative sources of energy, encouraging energy conservation and achieving independence from Middle Eastern oil imports are among my highest priorities", said Hamilton. "For the last seven years the Bush administration, with almost 100% support from my opponent, Darrell Issa, has pursued an energy policy built around what's good for the oil industry, not the long-term interests of our nation. The result is record profits for the oil industry, which continues to enjoy subsidies at taxpayer expense”. A more serious consequence of Bush administration policies has been a weakened economy in which high gas prices have led to higher prices for goods and services, reduced profits for businesses, and growing unemployment. While Americans continue to work hard, they find themselves falling ever further behind as prices soar for gasoline, food and many other products they depend on. Hamilton proposes targeted incentives and stricter enforcement of efficiency standards for all vehicles produced in the U.S. He also believes government should take an active role in promoting the development of clean biofuels. “Gasoline consumption accounts for almost half of U.S. demand for oil”, says Hamilton. “So, producing more fuel-efficient cars using a biofuel blend would go a long way towards reducing demand for oil, as well as helping our struggling auto industry survive.” "A Comprehensive Energy Policy is a matter of National Security", says Hamilton. “We cannot afford to continue on the path set by the Bush administration, relying on Middle East oil and loans from China. We must find alternative sources of energy and use existing sources more effectively if we are to retain a competitive role in an ever-changing world.” For information visit www.roberthamiltonforcongress.com
