The Mess on the Dauntless is equipped only with several replicators and a set of tables and chairs. It is designed to serve as the social hub of the ship, where off-duty personnel are able to socialise between shifts. On the Dauntless, however, the Holodeck frequently serves that function, and the Mess therefore only serves as a secondary social venue - a rare luxury for crews of Defiant Class Starships.

Mounted on the bulkheads of the Mess are a series of Status Displays, relaying critical data to the crew. This allows the off-duty crew to quickly obtain relevant information, should they need to assume battle stations or take another sort of emergency action in a hurry.
