S  huttlebays on Defiant Class Starships are, like most other facilities on board, stripped-down versions of their counterparts on larger vessels. In order to keep the target profile of the ship as small as possible, it wasn't practical to have the traditional aft-facing Shuttlebay doors with horizontal access. Instead, a design was borrowed from ancient NX Class vessels which employs a vertical access door on the ventral side of the ship.Although more practical for general use, this situation makes it impossible for the Dauntless to launch any shuttles while landed. As standard, Defiant Class Starships house three Shuttlecraft: two Class 1, and one Class 2. However and exception was made in the case of the USS Duantless, and we have modified the Shuttlebay to make room for replacing one of the Class 1 Shuttlepods with an additional Class 2 Shuttlecraft.
