Housed within this room is the warp reactor. Defiant Class Starships are fitted with a revolutionary new design of Warp Core called the Quad Core MARC Reactor. As the name suggests, it consists of four redundant MARC (Matter/Antimatter Reaction Chamber) reactors working in parallel. This ensures that the ship is still at 100% effectiveness, even if three of the reactors are shut down.

Although Engineering systems can be controlled from the Bridge, the suite of consoles and displays installed in Main Engineering provide the Engineering staff with a far greater detail of data, thus allowing them to isolate and remedy any potential issues before they become problems.

Either the Chief Engineer or Deputy Chief Engineer are on duty here at all times, along with a complement of specialist Engineers and Technicians.
