This rainbow was formed when white sunlight was reflected and refracted as it passed through rain drops causing a prism effect. The prism effect is white sunlight broken into a spectrum of colors ranging from red to violet

Relevance
This rainbow was taken the day of Prom for White Mountains Regional High School. It was was raining hard that day, when the rain lightened up this rainbow was visible. This happens when the clouds release the precipitation known as rain from the atmosphere.
