Scientific ResearchFor frogs, egg fertilization happens outside of the female's body. Both egg and sperm are released at the same time. To make sure the sperm reaches the egg the frogs get into a mating pose called amplexus; shown in my picture. The male frog is on the female frog's back. Frogs can stay like this for hours or even days. Female frogs can release anywhere from one to several hundred eggs during this time. RelevanceThis picture is relevant to me because I am interested in animals and their behaviors. I particularly like this one because it is one of the characteristics of life. It is relevant to my study of science because this year we studied characteristics of life. Other CommentsI took this picture on my trip to Philadelphia last April. It was taken in Delaware at Winterthur, one of the DuPont estates. |
