4th Form ICT: lesson 1

Lesson 1  Introduction

The aims of this lesson are:

  1. to allow you to meet your new set and get to know each other;
  2. to ensure you are comfortable with the basic operation of our systems;
  3. to lay foundations for subsequent work (individual, in pairs and in groups).

2. Introduction to St Paul's IT facilities and network. This will include: discussion of our AUP; accessing the intranet from home; the use and availability of our computing rooms; printing; networked software; web access.

3. Brainstorm (5 minutes on own; 5–10 minutes group feedback): what do you use the net for? What do you think of as 'computers'? How would you define 'computer'?

Prep: make a list of what hardware, OS (operating systems) and software you have at home and enter this information, from home, in a Word doc, saving this to your space on the SPS network. Do the same for your mobile phones and bring your phone in next time.
